PAL Amateur Boxing

COD's PAL Amateur Boxing program is offered to high-risk youth and young adults in the metropolitan area year round. The program trains youth and young adults in the sport of amateur boxing, offering them opportunities to compete in local, regional, and national tournaments. Much more than just boxing training, the PAL Amateur Boxing program addresses the whole person, encouraging healthy living through exercise, nutrition, positive sleeping habits, and a safe, alcohol, drug and tobacco-free lifestyle.

Male and female youth and young adults participating in the program are required to volunteer at the COD as an active contributing member of the organization, taking on various job responsibilities learned from peers, and moving into positions of more responsibility as their training matures and they grow in their personal development.

In addition, through their training and mentorship, young adults in the program are encouraged to become aware of and develop within themselves the following skills and values: leadership, accepting responsibility for actions, discipline, self-respect and respect for others, awareness of and ability to manage fears productively, building self-esteem, confidence, and the importance of health.
